On August 23, 2021, the Congolese government made history by hosting “the International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition” in Nsi-a-mfumu, in Kongo Central Province in the Democratic Republic of Congo, close to the Angolan border. Nsi-a-mfumu, a departure beach for transatlantic slaves, served as a poignant location for this commemoration.
